Feeling warm and fuzzy with Chandernagor Tea

Chandernagor Tea from Mariage Frères
It's been a while since we've talked about tea, hasn't it? Even though I no longer live in Paris, my love for Mariage Frères has not faded. Despite the fact that I can't just pop into their tea shop on a whim anymore, my collection doesn't seem to be getting any smaller. When I moved I really stocked up. The other day I realized that if I told you about a different one that I own once a week, we'd still be talking about my collection well passed Spring of 2008.
That is a lot of tea. And you know how I love to talk about it.
So let me tell you about this tongue twister of a tea called Chandernagor. I can't remember when exactly it was that I was first introduced to it, but I was still in Paris and it was cold and raining. I was meeting a cousin of mine and her friends for drinks. We settled on some Moroccan place just across from Les Halles, a corner joint with low lighting, lots of candles and comfy couches. My cousin and I got there early and settled our rain soaked selves into a couch by the window. And wouldn't you know, they had Mariage Frères tea on the menu.
Cut to us feeling cozy and relaxed with 2 steaming cups of Chandernagor tea warming us with the scent of cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, ginger and pepper.
I was instantly in love with it. And it didn't take long before it nudged itself into my collection.
The Chandernagor blend reminds me of chai tea and I'm sure it would lend itself well to being steeped in milk considering it is just a blend of spices. Having said that, I'm wondering why the heck I haven't done that yet. In my defense, the tea is so charming on it's own that I rarely think to mess with it. But now that the colder weather is here I think I might just give it a try.
Is it weird that I feel all warm and fuzzy just talking about it?

ooh, I'll have to see if they have that one in Japan. It sounds delicious and perfect for Autumn/Winter.
Is it wierd that I get all warm and fuzzy thinking about sniffing tea with you at MF?
Now I really have to have that tea! I never heard of it before. But that's the trouble with foodblogs, somebody talks passionate about something and I've to have it. I'm already visiting their online store. :-)
I hear you on the warm and fuzzy feeling when you think about a nice hot cup of aromatic tea!! It's definitely not weird!
maaike... lol i'm exactly the same way. If I see something I like in a food blog, I have to make it or have it as well. I think food blogging as become an obsession for me. It's like crack! (figure of speech.. not a literal comment as I have no idea what crack is like)
That is one SERIOUS collection of tea.
To think I've been all glum about the end of summer... Silly me, it means it's time really drink tea! I made my first proper cup this weekend. Nothing as lovely as this sounds, but made me feel comforted and cozy all the same. I'm just working my way around to pulling out the scarves...
Kat, let me know if you find it!
Alisa, we'll put that on our to-do list when I come in a couple of weeks alright? A trip to Paris would not be the same without getting our noses in some MF tea.
Maaike, oh-oh, I've created a monster! ;) I hope you are able to find it. If not, you'll just have to plan a trip to Paris and do what I do--go to MF and stock up!
Michelle, you are too funny, I love the disclaimer on the crack comment. ;) But yeah these teas can be frustrating because they are not as widely available as they should be! But perhaps that's what makes them so darn special.
Kevin, don't I know it! My fiance thinks I'm a bit nutbar, but what can you do.
Tea, when there is good tea around you won't even notice summer is gone. Ok, maybe that's a stretch, but it sure does help ;) And if it's any consolation, I've already got the winter coats out and ready for action!
Hey Michele,
Email your mailing address. I have a treat I know you're gonna love and that I'm itching to pop in the mail for you. The only hint I can give you is that it's not MF but it also is MF.
Cheers,
Aun (aun@chubbyhubby.net)

Aun, I'm intrigued, thank you! The email has been sent!
Rene, thanks for the link. I notice they have lots of red teas (rooibos) too which I love (MF has some great ones). And now you've got me wanting to get a big thermos!
