Moro. I love it. And that's that.

The first time I ever went to Moro was just shortly after we moved here. G and I dressed ourselves up and because it was too early for dinner, we opted to sit at the bar and test out some of their tapas.

We spent a few hours over small dishes of syrian lentils, chorizo, olives, empanadillas, patatas bravas and fresh sardines. While my eyes and tastebuds danced with glee, G immersed himself in the wine list and we tried wines by the glass from more countries than I care to admit.

For days afterwards I couldn't stop talking about it to anyone who would listen. I even bought Moro's 2nd cookbook and like a woman possessed I made 6 of their recipes in what seemed like a single weekend. They were all fabulous.

Needless to say, I have been back to Moro several times since then, and I still love it. I love the way it looks, I love the way it feels and, most importantly of all, I love the food. Their rosewater and cardamom ice cream is the stuff of my dreams.

Sometimes, I will admit, you have to break the ice a little bit with some of the staff, but show your enthusiasm about any of the dishes or the wine and that seems to do the trick. Either way, I'm just so happy when I go there, that even if the staff ignored me completely, I'd still sit there with the biggest smile on my face.

It's also worthwhile to check out the shop next door to them, called Brindisa, which carries many of the spanish ingredients that Moro uses in their dishes.
Brindisa can also be found at the Borough market.

Moro is the restaurant I'd most like to visit in London. I nearly crossed through the Chunnel just to eat there when I was recently in Paris, but I couldn't justify the costs for one meal. But I was tempted....

That's funny you posted this today....All day I have been wishing that I was able to go to Moro for dinner, tonight, or any time I wished. Twice today I mentioned it to people on the phone!

And if I remember correctly, apparently ordering the mint tea can get a good chuckle out of at least one waiter :)... Plus most of them are so cute with their tattoos, that just looking at them kinda works for me.

Mmm, Moro. It was the one place I ate in London on my last visit. I adore the cookbook but have never made anything from it; any suggestions? Some of those recipes are mighty involved for a weeknight supper!

Sam, I did come back! 4 months was just about the right amount of time to step away and start missing it ;)

Ales, the 2 owners started the restaurant first and then put out the cookbooks. And interestingly enough, from what I understand they met (now husband and wife) while working at the River Cafe. Cool huh!

Brett, well get thee to London, stat!

K&S, definitely put Moro on your list--I always seem to have a blast when I go there.

Alisa, great minds think alike darling. I think I'm about due for a return visit too, if only to see if anyone's got a new tattoo.

Catherine, when I started with the moro cookbook I gravitated towards the fairly simple recipes--the turkish leeks, slow roasted fennel with dill, the chickpea and squash salad, the harissa potato salad, the flatbread.. you see how I work ;) Since then I've repeated those a few times but haven't ventured further, so I think I should really get my butt in gear. But I recommend any of the ones that I tried, it's a good start anyway.

Ms. Tea, what has happened to you since moving to London? Cat got your tongue? Where are all those lovely detailed accounts of your food adventures? You have such a gift for words, don't be so stingy with them. You are leaving us starving for more.

Kate, if you are a fan of the first cookbook then definitely get the second. So far I have loved it!

Anonymous, perhaps there is a compliment in there but I'm just so darn jaded that all I want to do is say "bleh." Which would only support your comment that yes, the cat does seem to have got my tongue.
This blog? It's just for fun, you know.

Cindym, girlfriend you know where we're going when you come in June!

My most humblest apology, Ms. Tea, there is a HUGE compliment in my comment. And you are right, it was a bit bossy, a blog is supposed to be fun. I'm just greedy when it comes to good food and good food writing.

Third time's a charm, hopefully this comment will stick! As I was saying, I had thought that your reinspiring of my love of chorizo was enough ... but no more! Moro sounds the perfect spot for some nibbles, sips and girly gossip. Keep a stool open for me at the bar until I can get my butt over there.
