July, you made it hard to like you.
It's been hot.
That's no newsflash, I know.
I spend most of my energy these days trying to think of ways not to expend energy. If I don't move, and the breeze of the fan is directed solely at me, then it's bliss. But once I blink, or scratch my arm, suddenly I break out in a sweat and my bliss turns to extreme grumpiness.
I sweat, people. But I don't like it.
So I'm sure I don't need to tell you that I'm not cooking much. You put anything in your mouth that is even remotely above lukewarm and that's it, you're done. You've turned into a grumpy, sweaty, eating machine and you have to jump in a cold shower just to recover from the meal.
So where does that leave me?
No cooking=no photos=no blogging.
Boo.
The big debate is trying to decide if you really should drink that refreshingly cool glass of white wine. Because deep down you know the alcohol, in the end, will probably warm you up. But just the idea of wine seems to take the pain away, doesn't it? You can forget for a moment that you are in the middle of a heat wave, in a country with no air conditioning, and that the Evian spray bottle you bought just to refresh your face every now and then is now being used on arms, legs, and torsos.
But today, oh joy, TODAY, it is comparatively cool and the chance of perspiration for today? I'd say we're down to at least 20%.
I know I may be pushing it, but I'm going for a hot cup of coffee today and brace yourself, I may even make some soup for dinner.
See you later July. And don't come back.
At least for another year or so.

I won't be missing July but I'm not sure that August will be bringing anything any better.
You're always worth the wait, my dear! I can wholly understand your desire to lighten up in such a heat; but I have the opposite problem. I wish I could get my dear S to turn down the air conditioning so that I can stop wearing fuzzy slippers around the house!
I hope that August brings moderation - both in the weather and in your kitchen. Temple food and light flavours are tempting, but sometimes a girl feels the need to fire up the stove!
Wait, Meesh, you're debating whether or not to drink a glass of wine?
Allow me to butt in: DRINK THE WINE! Drink a nice cool crisp glass of rose, or one of those fruity Alsatian rieslings that's not too sweet. Mmm. And enjoy summer in Paris, dollface!
Call me masochistic, but I need some of that constantly-sweaty, too-hot-to-do-anything-but-sit-in-front-of-a-fan kind of weather or I don't feel it's really been summer. And if I haven't had any summer, *I* get grumpy ;) But I still feel for you, and I can certainly understand the lack of motivation to cook! Just don't stress about it - enjoy your summer and before you know it you'll be cooking and blogging again with a vengeance. And heavens yes, drink that wine!!!
I feel for you too, we here are having our own little heat wave with added humidity...talk about bad hair days for 3 months straight!
Loved this post...have the wine, I give you credit for having a hot cup of anything, it is iced coffee and teas for me until the end of September!
July?
That was so, like, last month, girlfriend...
Tanna, you're probably right but I'm thinking that at least it can't be worse right? ;)
Tara, fuzzy slippers? Too much air conditioning? How you taunt me. As for August, let me tell you-- today is August 1st, and so far, all is good. A high of 24c, overcast.. I'm a happy woman!
Cindy, admittedly the debate didn't last long. In fact I only debated it once I was already in the process of consuming the wine. And I have to say, I'm warming up to the idea of rosé thanks to yours and David's influence. You might just make a convert out of me yet.
Melissa, that is masochistic! And from a girl with no air conditioning in her own apartment either. You are a much stronger woman than I.. plus you tan better too don't you :)
K&S, I feel for you on the bad hair thing--humidity is no friend to my hair either. I will admit, I did have that coffee yesterday but didn't go for the soup.. but one day soon, very soon!
David, I know, Im so old school aren't I? August is the new July, I should really get on that bandwagon huh!
I had to come and tell you .. today we're to hit 36c, with a heat index or humidex (whatever) of 45! Admittedly, I don't mind heat, but dear S is positively melting! He even ASKED for a salad last night!
I completely understand. I reluctantly did laundry today and bake brownies for someone because, well, it was his birthday yesterday and I'd run out of excuses otherwise.
Good luck staying cool.
I pretty much quit drinking wine during the summer, since I immediately flush and get hot (and sweaty). So I know how you feel!
oh,from my humble 40 degree celsius home in florence, i can relate 100%! it is HOT, and i'm not cooking/blogging much either these days! let's catch up in september! :-)
Yeah, like Tanna said: I don't think August will be much better. *sigh*
But I'm glad July is gone. Can't wait to say goodbye to August.
Paz
Tara, I feel for you! I remember those endlessly hot Toronto summers.. It will end soon my friend, and you'll be back in sweaters in no time ;)
Mochene, any sort of chores in hot weather is 100 times more annoying than usual. Although the upside of baking brownies is getting to eat them afterwards, it may be worth heating up your kitchen for that!
Cyndi, you are a much stronger woman than I. Despite my grumblings I still haven't given it up!
Kishko, oy! 40 degrees in your house? Now that is hot. I feel for you!
Paz, I have to say, August is great so far! We've had a few days of rain, and some much lower temperatures. I even dared to have a hot bath recently--it was a big step!
