Spring. She is sprung.

Spring in Paris
Yesterday, a random "let's meet for an afternoon coffee" turned into an 8 hour walking tour of Paris with regular breaks at various cafes. My caffeine intake went through the roof, but damn, I sure got some good exercise. But the positive effects of those hours on our feet were quickly negated when the sun finally set and we decided it was time to switch from coffee to wine. But more caffeine would have kept me up all night, so I was really doing it with my health and well-being in mind. You see how I'm always taking care of myself.
The big excitement of the day was that I had my first celebrity-spotting experience. I won't deny that in these nearly 8 months that I've lived in Paris, I have wondered where the heck all the famous people are. Brangelina are photographed everywhere but I never seem to bump into them. If I did, I'm sure they'd want to take me out for a drink because I mean, you know, maybe they read Oswego Tea or something.
So anyway, there we were perched on a hard stool in a charming wine bar in the 5th, munching on a cheese plate, and right past the front window walks none other than Kristin Scott Thomas. It took all of .005 seconds for me to recognize her.
There was a subtle "Ah!" and a point and then "That's Kristin Scott Thomas." I tried my best to reel in my bug eyes.
Alisa, my wandering companion, nonchalantly informed me that KST actually lives in Paris.
I think she then flipped her hair to further accentuate the humdrum-ness of the sighting.
Well then.
But inside I was feeling pretty self-satisfied. Won't this make a great, albeit really short, story to tell my friends and family?
Then I realized that what it boils down to is this: "I saw Kristin Scott Thomas. The End. "
But still.
It's my story, and I'll tell it.
My legs were sore and aching when I got home so I took the hot water bottle to bed ignoring all warnings against doing so.. I woke up with 2 red patches on the back of my calves which screamed "You dork, you burnt yourself".
But it seemed a fitting end to an otherwise perfect day. Let me just say these 3 little words: Spring in Paris.. It doesn't get much better than that.

Since the grammar police have left me alone (temporarily) I wanted to raise the very serious point of whether or not it's...
"Brangelina ARE photographed..." or "Brangelina IS photographed..."
Is 'Brangelina' singular (one entity) or plural (two)?
And since we're in France, is 'Brangelina' masculine or feminine?
La Bragelina ou Le Brangelina?
And then we've got TomKat to worry about...(in more ways than one, I'm afraid.)
What a lovely day!!
How funny! I just watched tony Bourdain stroll around Paris on TV last night ... my dear S had to contend with my frequent sighs of "Michèle lives there. It must be lovely this time of year."
I was born in Paris and spent 25 years of my life there, but I NEVER saw ANYONE famous, except for maybe Lambert Wilson, but I doubt his fame goes beyond our borders… So Kristin Scott Thomas after only 8 months, that's pretty good, believe me … And by the way I think Brangelina has/have been in Namibia for a few weeks now, so you don't have to worry about that… In case they come back, I hear they live in a crappy building in the XVème arrdt… But you don't care THAT much, do you? :)
Wait, Michele, this is too weird. I saw her as well when I was there about five years ago!! Holy moly, that is so craaaaaaaaazy! I was reading your post, and thinking, hmm, I wonder who she saw and my jaw is on the floor now, after reading you saw the same celebrity I saw in Paris. WHOA!!! So we've seen each other through her eyes-ha:) I forget where I was, somewhere on the Left Bank, and she was in her green barbour jacket. Insane. She's so beautiful on cam, and even more so in real life:)
A MAGNIFICENT photo Michèle! And I'd be excited about the celeb-sighting too - I'm just like that :-)
I love this photo...one of my favorite views in Paris! As far as celeb sightings, being in Paris for 1.5 yrs, I've only seen Ron Livingstone, a.k.a. Office Space dude who was probably here on vacation. Always fun when it happens, though. I'm with you about springtime in Paris. It's like the whole city wakes up and you forget there was ever a grey rainy day! I enjoy your blog!
Sounds like a fun day, despite ending it with burning yourself with a hotwater bottle.
I wouldn't be surprised that Brangelina reads Oswego Tea and that they'd be excited to invite you out with. ;-)
Continue having a fun Spring time in Paris.

David, you are so hardcore with your grammar. Are you sure you don't need therapy too? Perhaps we can go halvsies on the cost of a therapist, me with my rainy day hair issues, and you with your grammar fixation. Or we could just drink some more wine.. Anyway, Im still sticking with "are" and Im pretty sure its "le brangelina." So there.
Clare, it WAS a perfect day, but then again any day in Paris is pretty good ;)
Tara, I definitely feel very lucky to be experiencing the changing of the seasons these last 8 months since I've lived here. I cant say winter was too exciting but so far its a toss up between fall and spring, both absolutely stunning.
Liza, I have to say that I laughed at your comment about the building that brangelina live in. Very funny! I dont think I've actually seen a movie star celebrity in my life so Im quite thrilled with this sighting. Now I think I'll be keeping my eyes open just a bit more--Im sure there's more celebs passing right under my nose ;)
Mona, wow! that's amazing. And truthfully she is the first celeb I've ever really seen in person so it is quite a coincidence that you saw her too. I think she was wearing a brown suede jacket when I saw her, she was definitely unmistakable.
Zarah, thanks, Im glad you like the photo. The sun was just beginning to set so I couldnt resist. And thanks for the solidarity on celebrity spotting excitement! Im STILL pretty enthused about it ;)
Megan, I would be pretty excited if I saw Ron Livingstone. Very cool sighting. And you're right about the rainy day thing, we had so much rain in March but its almost as if it never happened--or at least that it was well worth the pain of it to get to this point, where everything is green and budding!
Paz, ha! I honestly cant imagine that they do read the blog, but thanks for the vote of confidence ;)
Ah yes. Of course, Ms Thomas lives in Paris and speaks like a native. If you haven't yet seen the epic and occasionally thrilling French film Arsene Lupin, you should. Ms Thomas plays the big bad villain and is perfect in it.
Sigh... to be able to spend 8 hours walking around Paris. You lucky thing!
CH, you know I recently saw a trailer for a french movie with her in it and that was the first time I realized she spoke French. She does sound like a native! I will keep my eyes open for the movie you mentioned. As for the walking tour, I admit, I do feel pretty lucky!
I have always wanted to run into KST, so that I can make fun of her performance in Under the Cherry Moon and ask her where the nearest "wrecka stow" is! I am so jealous!
gorgeous photos. Such great atmosphere.
I have a friend in Boulongne there "outside" of Paris. I love reading your posts! Wish I were there!
