The time for cookies is now.

Chocolate Chunk and Toffee Cookies

I made these and I ate some. And now there are 40 of them left, tempting me every minute of the day. Calling to me from the kitchen in a soft, chocolatey whisper.

I won't deny that I have opened that tin of cookies many times. I have put my nose all the way in and sucked all of that cookie smell right out of there with a deep, long breath. I hold it in for as long as I can and then finally walk away, until the next urge to smell them hits me.
Just eat one, you might be thinking.
Oh, but I have. One, and then some.
The time for cookies has arrived, several times.
What's a girl to do with 40 delicious cookies?
I'll tell you what.
Pack them up, take them to a friend's house and wave goodbye.
Parting is such sweet sorrow....
Until you get back home, find a new recipe, and start all over again.

These Chocolate Chunk and Toffee Cookies are from Williams-Sonoma.
I used a Lindt chocolate bar that is filled with crunchy caramel bits as my toffee portion of the recipe. Since they are basically just a chocolate chip cookie with a bit of flair, you can use anything you want to act as the toffee portion. The cookies came out moist and chewy, with brown-sugary sweetness. Just the way a chocolate chip cookie should be. The recipe made 48 cookies, based on the size that I made them.
For those in France, I used type 55 flour.

Hi Michele, these look really delicious. Quick question though, the pictures on WS site look like they are much cake, scone like. Did you flatten your cookies?

sniff, sniff, sniff....put you nose in one more time and have a hit for me. They look just the way a chocolate chip cookie should look, too.

I wish I were the recipient of the cookies you dropped off. *Sigh* I guess I'll have to make my own, then.

There is no way i could have those 40 cookies hanging out in my house! There is no way I could just smell them!! I would have goobled all 40 of them in one sitting, leaving not even a crumb!
Soooooooooooo if you want to come over to my house I will gladly help you rid of them! I'll make tea!

Baking Fairy, no I didn't do anything different to the cookies, I just plopped them onto the baking sheet. But I did put parchment underneath to save myself the trouble of cleaning the pan afterwards. So perhaps that caused the difference in shape, or perhaps my oven is hotter and so they flattened out more, I'm not sure.

Alisa, I'm glad to hear you agree. I'm very particular about my chocolate chip cookies, and was very happy that these fit the bill perfectly. I don't think there is any smell left though, I've sniffed it all out. ;)

Paz, sorry my dear. But instead of making your own, you could also endeavour to find yourself a baking neighbour and try to become very good friends with them! If only just for the free cookies!

Fred, a cookie swap could be very very dangerous--to not just have one type of cookie in my house but two? Oy! Your walnut sables sound delicious!

Corey, but see that is exactly the problem I'm facing--doing my best not to eat them all up. And I'm not actually sure if smelling them helps or is just making it worse :)

David, that is a good idea. But ice cream is so hard to come by.. you know what they say, there's no such thing as free ice cream..
oh wait.. ;)

K & S, now that's a good idea too.. but by travelling to bring them to my friend I would perhaps burn off the calories of the many cookies I had already eaten!

Bea, it is very painful. If only I could figure out how to reduce all cookie recipes so that they only make 6 cookies, then I'd be a happy woman.

According to David L. french butter is heavier in fat than american butter, which might account for your cookies spreading more than the recipe photo. Ah ha.

Those cookies are awesome, but I don't have any, of course. So, immediately upon reading your post, I ran to the kitchen to snag a couple of the cookies we had "sitting around."

There are few things in this world better than a good cookie. Thanks for reminding me of that simple little fact.

Fred, I may just be a bit insane. but I would probably make cookies far more often if I could figure out a way to reduce the recipes to just a few cookies. Im not sure its possible though!

Kishko, thank you!

Cindy, well you know you and I are always mind melding about something. If its not molasses, its toffee.. or beer..

Amateur, thank you!

Alisa, That David sure is full of facts. Thanks for the info, I didnt know that!

Rob, well I hope your stash of cookies hit the spot. I have to say that having homemade cookies on hand is definitely a great thing.

Bea, yes, you're probably right ;)

Culinarily Obsessed, thank you! They were fantastic. Im definitely going to keep that recipe on hand.

How gorgeous and tempting! I'm impressed with your virtue, sending them along their merry way instead of gobbling them up yourself! Had I been there, I would have given you a hand, my dear. I've made a similar recipe in the past, including dried cranberries with the toffee. The puckery twang of the cranberries tempers the sugary onslaught of the toffee in a marvelous way.
