What a difference a year makes
At this time last year, G and I packed up 4 large suitcases and moved ourselves from a tiny apartment in Sheffield, UK:

The Botanical Gardens in Sheffield in winter
to a slightly bigger apartment in Heidelberg, Germany:

The Alte Brucke, (The Old Bridge) and the Castle
Six months after that we packed it all up again, said goodbye to our beloved sausages and sauerkraut and freshly baked german pretzels and now we find ourselves here:

Wow. Life is good.

Mmm...gorgeous photos! I love the black and whites. I'm glad you are in Paris now too, so that I can live vicariously through your adventures (er misadventures, as the case may be)...although I wouldn't mind you a bit closer for visitation purposes! I hope you're feeling back to 100%!
Ah yes indeed. It does not get better than this! Good for you
How do you deal with nos belles grèves though? Are you used to them yet? (From a French lady's memories ;-))
Very cool!! And I love your photos.
Life IS good!
Best,
Paz
Yeah baby !! I have a hard time trying to imagine where you're going to move next time... (damn parisians... they are always boasting around :D )
Cheers,
Fred
Can I squeeze into your suitcase on the next venture? Great sites, great food great company p-l-e-a-s-e!
So where are you now? j/k good luck.
Congratulations on one year in Europe! I wonder where one year from now will find you - Bangkok, Sydney, Kathmandu? Or maybe Paris suits you just fine... I know I certainly wouldn't mind if you stayed for a while! :)
Un reve, n'est-ce pas??
Ha, I wish I could be doing the same thing. I've kinda done that within the 50 United States, but would much rather be doing it in Europe!!
Michelle, yes but if you were going to visit me aren't you glad I'm in Paris and not somewhere in the deep snowy north of Canada?
Bea, well the strikes happen everywhere I guess! and I'm certainly happy to suffer through them for the pleasure of living here ;)
K&S, thanks!
Paz, even after a bout of food poisoning!
Fred, I have trouble imagining that too. Where does one go after Paris?
Corey, well I'm hoping we'll stay put for a while yet. I don't want to look at those suitcases for a very long time!
Derek, thanks!
Melissa, well it's one year in continental Europe! (last october would have been our one year anniversary of arriving in Europe).. I hope that in one year we will still be here, perhaps wealthy by then by some miracle, with a huge apartment overlooking the tower, and that personal bistro chef in my kitchen that I always wanted ;)
Mona, it is definitely a dream. I still have trouble absorbing it sometimes when I'm walking around the city!
Glad you are enjoying it.
Life IS good!
And so much nicer for me, now that you live here.
Bisous.
Wow, Michele, 2005 was quite a year. I'm glad you've found a place to stay put (for a while). But I must say, Heidelberg looks beautiful.
Beautiful, my dear, and yes, WHAT a year! Like Melissa, I can only wonder what other adventures await you, although I am pulling for Paris, personally - at least until I can get over there to visit! xo
Maybe New York ?? or Hong-Kong ??? I'd love to leave in NYC, and I'm going to HK in May and hopefully coming back (but who knows for sure ?).
Are you leaving Paris very soon ?
Fred
Gracianne, thanks ;)
Alisa, aw, likewise darlin!
Amylou, Heidelberg is small but definitely gorgeous. And the pretzels, oh those were good pretzels!
Molly, my vote is for Paris too. And I definitely don't want to leave before getting a chance to explore the city with you my friend! So get your butt over here ;)
Fred, wow, Hong Kong, very exciting. And no, we have no intentions at this point of leaving Paris, but neither did we know we'd be leaving the other cities either! But we are hoping to be here for a couple of years at least..
Clearly, by this time next year you will be living in gorgeous San Fran, next to your dear friend Cindy. Clearly.
Hi Michele - you two have managed to squeeze a lot into just one year! Hope you'll have now plenty of time to explore Paris. Should I ever have a chance to visit the city (finally!), I'll come back and ask for foodie tips:)
Tis amazing what you've had to experience. One month per year was as close to Continental living I got. And it was on someone else's terms much of the time. Maybe someday I can have an adventure like yours.
Cindy, clearly! Because I couldnt bear another moment in Paris without my Lambchop!
Pille, yes its hard to believe we did 3 countries in one year. We do hope to stick around Paris for a while though. And yes, be sure to let me know if you do make it to Paris!
DiningDica, it has been truly amazing and a great surprise. Of course sacrifices had to be made to do it, like leaving friends and family behind, but in the end the experience is worth it.
Great post.....think of what you will talk about with the grandkids!!
You back on your feet and ready to eat out again?
Melissa
Michele, I didn't even know you were in Sheffield!
Melissa, well im back on my feet but find myself still wary about eating out.. I'll have to take it slow ;)
Keiko, we were in Sheffield for only 4 months.. Long before I even thought about starting the blog, so there is not much mention of it in my posts.
