Finally settling down..

Random cafe picture, before the rush..

It seems that my life consists mostly of moving. There are always at least 2 suitcases laying about unemptied; filled with bruised books, forgotten socks, and pants that are so Spring 2004. But they just keep following us around, from one place to the next.

Well, I'm happy to announce that we have found ourselves a permanent apartment and now it looks like we are here to stay for a couple of years at least. Ah, Paris, I'm all yours baby.

Sure, the apartment is unfurnished, and no, we don't currently have any furniture to put in it, but I'll gladly sleep on the floor in my own place, than sleep on someone else's bed in a pre-furnished apartment that never really feels like home. A maddening trip to Ikea this weekend resulted in us at least having a furnished kitchen. A good start, right?

Maybe I won't feel so enthused in a week or so when my back decides to punish me for sleeping on the floor while we await the delivery of our mattress. But until then, all is right in my little world.

So, please excuse the lack of posting. It has been a busy journey getting this apartment and setting up what seems like hundreds of utilities, which is not so easy in one's second language. Sometimes I just say "oui" and hope that they think I know what t
hey're talking about. It seems to be working so far.

In any case, I'll get to the posting shortly, I promise. And make note that there is some intriguing business about a Prune Blogging Thursday on October 27th. Perhaps you're wrinkling your nose about prunes, but hey, challenge yourself!

The Medicis Fountain again, because I love it so..

Congratulations! There is nothing like deciding to stick around for a while. And I so understand your opting to just say oui over and over again. Last week we had some plumbers here that spoke with a very heavy dialect that I couldn't understand. I nodded and nodded and nodded and eventually they fixed our sink.

Who knows what your budget looks like but you should head out to the antique fair that happens out in Chatou-Croissy, off the RER A line. I don't even like furniture shopping but had a blast walking around and picking out artwork, armoires, and trinkets with my family.

Congratulations on your new apartment, I am glad you'll keep posting from here for a while. Try the "depot-ventes" shops, rue d'Alesia in the 14th. There are great purchases to be made there sometimes.

Hello Amylou, thanks much! Im glad to hear im not the only nodder.. There is also a lot of blinking and smiling involved which I am sure is a trick you are accustomed to employing as well to feign understanding. Although I think at least here I dont have to deal with dialect, I'd be even worse off if that were the case. I commend you for managing to get your sink fixed as planned and not ended up with a new doorbell or something.. ;)

Hi Mona, thank you for the tip, I will definitely check it out!

Hi Clare, thank you so much, it does feel good to settle in for awhile. And the move went fairly smoothly, it was Ikea that just about did us in..its evil I tell you!

Hi Gracianne, thank you very much, Im looking forward to settling in and making a life here. And thanks for the tip, I will check out those shops. We definitely have alot of shopping to do in the days and weeks ahead!

Yay! to your new and permanent apartment! That's exciting news. It's a good idea to furnish the kitchen first. ;-) Soon you'll be really settled in with furniture and other things exactly where you want them, allowing you to become even more comfortable.

Best,
Paz (anxious to see what comes up for Prune Blogging Thursday!)
