Polentaphobia.. part 2

huh?
um.... does that look good? I didn't think so. And as for the polenta project? Last night was officially the FINAL episode. I realized a very crucial thing that has gotten in the way of my success with polenta all these years. I just don't like the taste of it. I've spent years in denial and am finally ready to admit: "My name is Michele. And I don't like polenta." Perhaps I will be shunned by my friends and family with this admission, and maybe I'll become an outcast of society. But I'm willing to take that chance in order to free my soul of this burden I've been carrying around for so so long.
Filled with enthusiasm and positive energy, I made the polenta early in the evening, and got it to a nice creamy mush. Perfect. Mission accomplished I thought. I took a spoon and dipped it into that yellow pile and tasted it. Hmm. One bite is ok, but I'm not going in there again, I thought to myself. And this is the point where I should have had my revelation. This is the point that I have always failed to recognize that I should just stop. But again, I told myself, "Let it cool, it will probably taste better."
Thus began part 2.
After a couple of hours the polenta had sufficiently cooled and I was delighted to see that it was a solid mass. I lifted that blob onto a cutting board and dove in for a taste. Hmm, like some kind of soft exotic rubber.
And I quickly moved on to Part 3.
I'd read from various sources, try grilling it. Ok, I tried. Then I spent a good deal of time soaking my grill pan to get all the polenta off, and ended up eating a sandwich for dinner. Refer to above picture.
So, thus ends my adventures with polenta. Maybe in another couple of years I will have conveniently forgotten everything I've learned over the last 2 days and I will give it another try. But in the meantime, I feel as though a weight has been lifted and joy has returned to my life.

I am glad that you feel inner peace having abandoned polenta. But since this post is 3 years old you may decide to try one more time. I love polenta and I am committed to persuading any one from the other side of the fence. I too don't like the taste of grilled polenta, but a creamy polenta as a substitute for mash is truly delicious. (not a time for watching butter or salt though) Anyway I just stumbled across you blog and for some reason decided to start at the beginning. I love the way you say what you have to say. ps incase you ever decide it's time to try again with polenta pop by www.peaandpear.com
Cheers
