making acquaintance with the white radish

white radishes
I found something new this morning at the farmer's market. And though I've definitely heard of white radishes, I rarely see them and have never bought them. In fact, Im not even sure that I like radishes. But they were sitting there, a creamy white colour, like some kind of mutant carrot, and I couldn't resist. And I'm perfectly aware that my tastes are always changing and I'd hate to miss out on something for lack of trying. Although, I will admit that the real reason I bought them was because the german fellow who sold them to me was especially friendly, despite the early hour and the drizzling rain that has greeted me every morning for the last couple of weeks here in Heidelberg. You can see by today's photo that my photography skills are struggling with the lack of light in my apartment. But I will just have to make do.
My kitchen is now filled with enough fresh produce to last me until Saturday, when the farmer's market sets up in the town square again. And the added bonus is that if I go early enough when they are not busy, the vendors are often in the mood to chat about the produce, and I can take the opportunity to practice my german.
I must admit that with this lovely find, the polenta project is weighing heavily on my mind and this morning I feel ready to shelve it for another 2 years, just as I had sworn I wouldn't. But dinner is a long way away so perhaps my enthusiasm will return by then.
Did that sound convincing?
